Chateau de la Messardière: Saint - Tropez.

Updated: Feb 10, 2020

Chateau de la Messardiere Saint Tropez Review

Connections by Avra recently had the pleasure of visiting a remarkable property with a rich history located in the breathtaking landscape of Saint-Tropez, the Chateau de la Messardière. This property dates back to the 17th century which has now been turned into an oasis for luxury travelers to discover.

The name Messardière dates back to the reign of Charles Martel, the grandfather of one of France's most iconic ruler, Charlemagne. The chateau was finished in 1904 as a wedding gift to officer and accomplished horseman Henry Brisson de la Messardière and his wife, a young artist/musician Louise Dupuy Angeac. The two French lovers had seven children and lived a regal life of horse riding while the sound of a classical piano echoed through the chateau. All was well in paradise until the sudden death of Henry, which left Louise as a widow.

Shortly after his death, the newly widowed Louise opened the chateau to high-class guests and young ladies from good families who wanted to perfect their education. Louise was a master in high society French life which served her well to keep the estate alive, but her administrative skills lacked. This forced her to sell the chateau which began a long period of several owners that ran the property into the ground more than once.

The Rebirth of the Chateau de la Messardiere

In 1989 the chateau was completely restored and expanded under the head of Historical Monuments architect, Jean-Claude Rochette. He added two extra wings facing the sea and a central swimming pool that is a highlight of this revived royal property. Now a 5 star property, the Chateau de la Messardière offers guests a one of a kind experience.

Rated as one of the top hotels in Saint-Tropez, the chateau rests on 25-acres which is located only minutes from the beach and downtown Saint-Tropez. Guests will be pleased to know that 24/7 shuttle service is available to escort guests wherever they desire. They also have a helicopter pad for those that wish to fly in style.

One of the many highlights of this property is its botanical garden that is impeccably maintained. Enjoy a quiet stroll along the botanical footpath and in the Mediterranean garden. Take in the scents of the typical Provencal flora. Chateau de la Messardière is the French Bird Protection League's (LPO) only partner-hotel, in association with Birdlife International. Château de la Messardière operates various environmental protection plans, incorporated into the hotel's daily management.

The Chateau de la Messardière has 117 rooms. With such a large property but a low number of rooms, the service is at the highest level. Captured in the photo above is the horse stable that was used by the once royal family that has now been turned into suites for guests to escape in, known as the Gulf Suites. The Gulf Suites are separate from the main hotel but located only a few steps from the pool and restaurants.
