Fairmont the Queen Elizabeth Review
Connections by Avra recently had the pleasure to be hosted by the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth in Montreal, Canada to check out their newly renovated property. Fairmont is a name and brand that represents what all is to be encompassed with luxury, sophistication, and service. The Fairmont in Montreal, eastern Canada's largest hotel, has re-opened their doors after a complete top to bottom renovation that is nothing short of spectacular.
The Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth is perfectly located in the heart of Montreal. With a blend of English and French influence, guests can effortlessly enjoy the historic cosmopolitan city by simply walking out of the front door. With French style cathedrals and petite french cafes to discover, you may be inspired to extend your stay!
From the moment you walk into the The Queen Elizabeth you venture through an impressive lobby ready to greet guests by offering their valet service that is very affordable, about $30 a night, and an organized team of bellmen that will promptly drop off your luggage to your room. My luggage arrived within five minutes of entering my room. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and friendly and if you're wanting to practice your french, you'll have plenty of opportunity since all staff are fluent in both English and French.
The goal of the renovation was to update an iconic property by blending modern/contemporary design balanced with a french European touch. I believe they accomplished this wonderfully. On the right side of the lobby is a French-inspired market.
The Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth is designed and operated through an internal eco-system. When guests enter the market they are able to enjoy chocolates, breads, jams, along with fresh fish and meat. The products in the market are the same products that are used by their award-winning chefs from France to cook the meals for guests in their restaurants.
Montreal Luxury Hotel Sustainability
The Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth has also been a leader in sustainability. This is reflected in many ways including their food. They have partnered with local farmers to get their products straight from the farm to the table. This also helps support the local economy. They use sustainable packaging, water fountains, gluten-free options, free-range eggs, and they have 7 honey hives with a team of 3 local beekeepers! Their efforts in sustainability has been recognized by several awards and honors. This includes the following:
-2018 - Recognition award given by the non-profit organization La Société de Développement Social for all the donation of materials made by the hotel during the time it was closed for renovations Redistributed to 28 Montréal charitable organizations and ITHQ, the donation is estimated at 365 000 $ CAD
- 2014 - Sustainability awards from the city of Montreal for our rooftop urban agriculture program
-2013 - Honorable Mention for Eco-Responsibility at the Quebec Tourism Awards
-2012 - Finalist for the Vivats awards in the supplier's category (Recognition for eco-friendly events)
-2012 - Finalist for a Phénix environmental award, the highest environmental award in Quebec Province
-2010 - Sustainable Tourism prize awarded by the Regional Grands Prix du Tourisme Québécois in recognition of its leadership on the environmental front, with one of the most extensive and successful green program
One of the most unique features of this property to highlight is the John Lennon and Yoko Ono room. From May 26 to June 2, 1969, The Queen Elizabeth hotel welcomed John Lennon and Yoko Ono for their Bed-in for Peace. Nobody suspected then that this event would go down in history and that the suite in which they stayed would become one of the most mythical in the world.
Fifty years later, the hotel invites Montrealers and visitors to relive this unforgettable milestone during which the famous couple composed and recorded the Peace Hymn, Give Peace a Chance, without leaving their bed. By this unusual initiative, the newlyweds wanted to demonstrate against the Vietnam War and to raise collective awareness about universal peace.
This property is an incredible destination. Located in the heart of Montreal, being an iconic property by celebrating the 50th year anniversary with John Lennon bed-ins for peace, great local cuisine prepared by award-wining French chefs and enjoying the high standard of service, Connections by Avra highly recommends any of our guests interested in discovering Montreal to speak with one of our travel advisors about staying in The Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth.
