Lisbon, Portugal has recently enjoyed consecutive years of record-breaking tourism. As a culturally vibrant coastal capital with centuries of history that is seen throughout the city, it's a destination that is a must for those that love to discover the beauty of Europe. Sitting on top of one of Lisbon's seven hills, The Four Seasons Ritz Hotel enjoys a spectacular location overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Tagus River, while also standing as one of the prominent landmarks of Lisbon. Only a 15 min walk to the "Old Town" and other main attractions, The Four Seasons Ritz Hotel submerges you into the charming Portuguese history and culture.
Built-in the 1950s and inspired by the nobility and luxury of Parisian design, the property was erected to host the most prominent Portuguese artists, bureaucrats, and designers of the era. The hotel displays 16 pieces of original artwork created by some of the most famous Portuguese artists of the mid 20th century. Hotel Rooms and Accommodations
The Four Seasons Ritz Hotel has 282 spacious rooms to select from. Amazingly, of the 282 rooms, 272 have private balconies. This a great highlight of the hotel as it was designed to host important guests, nearly every room has a beautiful view of the Eduardo VII Park and Saint Georges Castle. Booking through our agency we will guarantee that you will have the pleasure to overlook the city skyline while sipping on the countries national drink offered in every room as a gift, Portuguese port wine.
Despite the COVID restrictions, the Four Seasons Ritz Hotel has been under a major renovation project, giving a facelift to nearly every floor of the hotel. During our stay, we stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms and it was very impressive with the result they achieved. Staying true to their 1950s founding and artistic roots, the architects aimed to embody this through a modern/contemporary design. Each room welcomes guests with a large marble bathroom designed with his/hers sinks along with a sperate tub and shower with a waterfall shower head that will melt any stress off your body.
We were spoiled and enough their signature suite, the Royal Suite. Located on the top floor and with 1,890 sq. ft. of spacious living, this newly restored suite provides guests with a private experience which includes an enchanting separate dining area and a kitchenette. This suite also comes with three private balconies with views of the city, Tagus River, Eduardo VII Park, and St. George Castle. Having a panoramic view for breakfast before hitting the highlights of Lisbon sounds like a great start to a day!
Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Pool & Spa
If you have never enjoyed Lisbon, you will soon find out once you start navigating the city on foot, the city is very hilly. After a long day out on Lisbon's signature white and black stone streets, the services at the Spa can be the perfect healing remedy. Step into the pool kept at a comfortable temperature and relax in the Zen atmosphere. During our visit, all of the treatment rooms were occupied, which is no surprise. The Spa offers a variety of treatments and treatment packages that will leave you feeling rejuvenated.
A very exciting announcement that the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon is currently constructing is the addition of an outdoor pool area. During our stay construction was busy at work building what will appear to be a beautiful outdoor space for guests. Not only a pool but also a pool restaurant/bar will complement guests' overall experience. Expected to be completed next year, we are excited to re-visit to highlight the new updates!
Of all the properties that we, at Connections by Avra, have visited and highlighted for our clients, the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz takes a controlling first place for their gym facilities. The rooftop was transformed into an outdoor track and also being equipped with stationary workout equipment. Waking up to a workout and taking in the fresh air while marveling at the best view the city offers is truly a surreal experience. It makes you want to get a sweat in the morning before breakfast! The indoor work out room with state of the art equipment is stunning and of course exceptionally clean. The gym also has a separate yoga room and Pilates studio if you enjoy alternative work out routines. Private trainers are also at your service upon request.
From their newly renovated rooms and suites to the soon grand opening of their outdoor pool/bar, this property is full of updates and exciting highlights. Cura, short for "curadoria" in Portuguese, which means "skillful curatorship", is yet another new exciting feature of this property. Recently opening their door, this restaurant is the talk of the town within fine-dining circles. Specifically designed to achieve Michelin status, Chef Pedro Pena Bastos works with only Lisbon's rich regional seasonal ingredients to create Portuguese inspired dishes that have great taste and meaning. With space for only 25 guests, you are guaranteed to have a unique, authentic, and intimate experience.
If you prefer to eat out in the city for a night, we highly recommend making time to meet at the Ritz Bar and try one of the monthly signature cocktails that is nothing short of a work of art and most defiantly a conversation piece. For example, Novembers' signature drink will celebrate the Hotel's 60th anniversary with a sparkling cocktail reminiscent of the hotel's opening party in 1959. A warm and cozy atmosphere wraps you in, a perfect start to a night in Lisbon.
The Varanda is their main dining area that has a timeless feel. With its outdoor seating that has the premier view of Eduardo VII Park, The Varanda Restaurant offers a diverse menu that highlights local specialties and ingredients. Led by Executive Chef Pascal Meynard, originally from the Basque area of France, and previously trained in Michelin-starred restaurants in Paris, you are guaranteed to enjoy a dish of art with a world-class view.
Recommendations and Tips
During my stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz, it was my birthday and the attention to detail was exceptional. I gave no warnings that it was my birthday but clearly someone noticed the date on my reservation and then communicated this to the staff. From the front staff, concierge, the main restaurant, the Ritz Bar, to the spa staff, they all wished me a happy birthday. In the Spa, they offered me a wrapped present with a handwritten card. As you can see from the photo above I walked into this beautiful display of champagne and cake. Additionally, the restaurant I ate at in Lisbon also knew it was my birthday thanks to the fine staff from the hotel.
If you want to treat yourself or a loved one to a great celebration for any important moment in your life by traveling to a beautiful coastal town, I highly recommend planning your special day at the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz. Their attention and communication were beyond expectations and as your travel advisor, we put fully our trust in this property to make any special moment in your life memorable. They certainly did for me.
